SDN在西市場出沒的每雙鞋，都大大的烙印上臺南的字樣，郭老闆說，就是要大大方方讓人家知道我們就是臺南鞋！只有在西市場才買得到喔！

西市場兼具歷史價值與現代重生魅力，是台南少見能融合百年建築與多元當代文化的典範。

坐落於台南市中西區，由西門路、中正路、正興街與國華街圍成，是台灣最早的公設市場之一，當時是南台灣最大、最具規模的新式市場。隨布商進駐，也被稱為「布市」。

逐漸沒落後，並於 2003 年被指定為台南市市定古蹟，指定範圍涵蓋本館、香蕉倉庫、冷藏庫等建物。

隨都市開發與人潮轉移，市場功能一度式微。

直到2017 年修復工程分階段啟動，恢復屋頂與門面細節，並在 2021 年北翼與中央棟完工，後續進行周邊街廓改建，包括香蕉倉庫與露店整建，並於 2024 年配合台灣設計展作為主展場展出。

並於今年2025 年陸續開放攤商回歸，預計恢復布市與文創、小吃等多元功能！真的非常期待！

Every pair of shoes from SDN appearing in the West Market is boldly stamped with the words “Tainan.” Boss Kuo said, “We want everyone to know proudly that these are Tainan-made shoes! You can only buy them at the West Market!”

The West Market carries both historical value and the charm of modern revival, making it a rare example in Tainan of blending a century-old building with diverse contemporary culture.

Located in Tainan’s West Central District, bounded by Ximen Road, Zhongzheng Road, Zhengxing Street, and Guohua Street, it is one of Taiwan’s earliest public markets. Back then, it was the largest and most modern market in southern Taiwan. With the influx of fabric merchants, it also became known as the “Fabric Market.”

After gradually declining, it was designated as a Tainan City historic site in 2003, with the designation covering the main building, the banana warehouse, and the cold storage facility. However, as urban development shifted and crowds dispersed, the market’s functions faded.

In 2017, restoration projects began in phases, reviving its roof and façade details, with the north wing and central hall completed in 2021. Surrounding street blocks were also redeveloped, including the banana warehouse and roadside shops, and in 2024, the market was featured as the main exhibition venue for the Taiwan Design Expo.

Now in 2025, vendors are gradually returning, and the market is expected to restore its diversity as a hub for fabrics, cultural and creative goods, and street food. Truly something to look forward to!

This Thursday, August 21, is the official grand opening, and I can’t wait to witness the old Tainan lifestyle vibe that still lingers here!
